The last few weeks have been so full, I haven't had a chance to write about them till now.
Three weekends ago, I went to the MCA Zine Fair, part of the Sydney Writers' Festival. They had a real good turnout - any busier and there would be no room at all to move. I picked up The Spirit of the Blade and the latest issue of Noble Rot by K-san, the latest issue of Sharp and Pointy by Mir, a very cute zine pack by the fetus, and of course the Sexy Men of Australian Comics calender, featuring "the sexiest male cartoonists in Australia, as drawn by our finest female cartoonists", including our own
stikmancomics as Mr October.
Two weekends ago, I saw Guys and Dolls at the Capitol Theatre. It was a great night out. Full review later. On the Saturday,
leenabeans hosted a lunch at her place. It was a very pleasant way to spend the afternoon, and I got to catch up with some friends who have only recently returned from distant shores. On the Sunday,
mirness led a couple of us on a food tour of Balmain. Brunch at La Boheme restaurant and cafe, shopping for pastries along Darling Street, afternoon tea at the Adriano Zumbo chocolate cafe, and by then we were stuffed so full we had to call it a day before we even hit dinner.
One weekend ago, I went back to the MCA for the Creative Sydney panel on 'Copyleft, Right, and the In-between: IP and Remix Culture'. It's such a huge area that it's impossible to cover more than a few facets at a time, but there was a good selection of speakers, who all had different experiences to share. (I so have to see the Mad Max Remix now. Even the trailer was an absolute classic.) The one disappointment was that the moderator cut off the Q&A after only three questions, even though there were fully ten minutes left. Anyway, I was lucky enough to catch
_leareth afterwards and we had dinner at the Rocks. That weekend was also the long weekend, so I joined some other hardy souls at
fluffyduck's place for the Comickaze 24 Hour Challenge.
This weekend, I will sleep a lot.
